Our Goal

We live in a part of the world and in an era - where information is so readily available - that most of us reading this site already know of all the statistics. We know of the 1.2 billion people in the world that live on less than $1 a day - a number that will grow to 1.9 billion by 2015 [1]. We know of the 40,000 people that die each day due to sheer hunger. (If you don't have a tear in your eye by now, you're missing the point). So we realize that hunger and starvation is an immense problem - that each and everyone one of us is responsible for. The real question that begs to be answered is: Where do we start?

Although the need for non-perishable food items is immense throughout Canada and the world - we at MYLC decided that we wanted to start by helping those that we live amongst and those that live amongst us - the hungry and needy of Southwestern Ontario. Because believe it or not: it's a reality that there are starving people here in our very own backyard.

Hence, we decided to choose two food banks that cater to our local communities. It must be stressed that this project is the driving force behind are the students in various universities who want to share in the spirit of Ramadan and want to reach out to those that are less fortunate.

The participators of this drive are members of Southwestern Ontario MSAs (Muslim Students' Associations) and their goal is one and the same across the province - to help collect as much food as possible and to help everyone of every community, culture, and race. That is the essence of Ramadan.
